Exploring the path of light !

by Aji Ali

How did the photographer take such an amazing photo ? Keep the Camera shutter open for few seconds? What does that mean ? When we click the camera shutter button it takes the photo. That was the only knowledge I had at that time reg photography. So I cut that black & white photo from news paper and kept it in my records. It was a photo of  lights coming from different vehicles on the road.

After years, I read about camera Shutter speed and learnt how it works. It was not bad. Some of my experiments worked well. The below photo is a result of 2 -3 hours of effort with the help of my wife to capture the path of light.

This was shot in a dark room. I put the camera on tripod and set the camera shutter speed to 8 seconds. I stood facing the camera, used a pencil torch and wrote “INDIA” as its mirror image in the air. Try it, its quite interesting.

I am writing a unit of instruction on the basics of photography and would like to use this image with your permission. This is for my PhD dissertation, and I promise this is not a scam, spam, or a joke! Please respond with either yes or no.
